Product Overview

SUS316L, also known as 1.4404 (EN standard), X2CrNiMo17-12-2 (EN material number), 022Cr17Ni12Mo2 (Chinese GB standard), is a widely used low-carbon austenitic stainless steel coil. Compared with standard 316 stainless steel, 316L reduces carbon content to restrain chromium carbide precipitation during welding, avoiding intergranular corrosion. The molybdenum element inside significantly improves resistance to chloride ion corrosion, making it suitable for seawater, salt, acid and damp working conditions.

What is the main advantage of SUS316L over SUS316?

The low carbon (≤0.03%) of SUS316L prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding. It effectively avoids intergranular corrosion, so no heat treatment is needed after welding.
