Product Overview
Tin Free Steel (TFS / ECCS) Sheet is a chromium-coated steel sheet without a tin layer, manufactured in accordance with ASTM A623/A657, JIS G3315, and EN 10202 international standards. It uses a low-carbon steel substrate with a double-sided chromium and chromium oxide coating, providing an economical alternative to electrolytic tinplate (ETP) for metal packaging applications.
TFS/ECCS uses the same Single Reduced (SR: T1, T2, T2.5, T3, T4, T5) and Double Reduced (DR: DR7, DR8, DR9, DR9M) temper grades as ETP. SR grades are suitable for deep drawing and flexible packaging components, while DR grades provide higher rigidity for lightweight thin-wall can tops, bottom covers, and rigid packaging structures.
The double-sided chromium coating weight can be customized from 50–150 mg/m² according to the packaging environment. The chromium-based protective film provides strong coating adhesion, sulfur resistance, and corrosion protection, while supporting paint, printing, and internal coating processes. Compared with ETP, the tin-free structure also provides a cost-oriented material option.
With good ductility and formability, TFS/ECCS supports conventional can-making processes including punching, edge curling, seaming, and welding. It is widely used for can lids, easy-open ends, crown caps, screw caps, food packaging ends, battery casings, and cosmetic packaging containers.
